Mallorca has always been frequented by celebrities and influential people from all over the world but, unlike other Mediterranean destinations such as Marbella or Ibiza, they come to the island with the idea of going unnoticed and being able to enjoy a quiet holiday. That's why they can unexpectedly turn up in the most emblematic places of Mallorca. The town of Valldemossa, and more specifically the Charterhouse, has attracted a significant number of these famous people, inspired by the legendary stay of Frédéric Chopin and George Sand but also by other universal geniuses such as Jorge Luís Borges, Rubén Darío and Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, among many others. Between the 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium, American actor Michael Douglas became one of its main ambassadors and his media presence meant that even more celebrities have come in search of the essence of the so-called "Isle of Calm".
Over time, all kinds of celebrities have regularly come to the Charterhouse and Valldemossa: from top models (Claudia Schiffer, Elle McPherson) to actors (Leonardo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek, Catherine Zeta Jones), sportsmen (Boris Becker, Rafa Nadal) and renowned musicians (Van Morrison, Art Garfunkel, Compay Segundo). The presence of nobles, princes, kings and representatives from various Royal Houses all over the world has naturally contributed to this tradition: Princess Diana of Wales, Ahikito of Japan, Sophie of Habsburg and the Spanish King and Queen themselves, who have visited La Cartoixa on several occasions during their time on the throne.
Year after year, the list of celebrities continues to grow, enhancing the renown of Valldemossa internationally. During their respective visits, La Cartoixa has become a place to see and yet another reason to take in the island's charm.
